I was desperately searching Craigslist and various sites to find this ugly gem of mine. It must have been fate. I received a text message from a dear friend telling me he had found me the perfect camper. My only requirements were that it was a 1970 or older, had 4 walls, and was less than $500. Upon my desperate request to find a pile of junk camper for less than $500. Ol’ Iron sides was just $200 & 48 years old (when I found her) 1966! I agreed to buy her sight seen. After calling the owner immediately, I drove to the neighboring town and spotted this beauty (bag over the head type). I took a quick outside tour before the owner came and fell in love immediately, until he opened the door. The smell is one I shall never forget, almost 50 years of old mold and varnish. She was packed to the gills in trash and 2in” blue foam board insulation. Garbage piled to the ceiling, stained carpet, mildew soaked cushions, missing benches, moldy fridge, and cobwebs. SHE WAS PERFECT! My mom gave me that, “Ok, dear, I understand look” that held no reassurance. I was in love! I handed the gentleman $100 of the $200 I owed for her and awaited a call for him to finish “cleaning out the junk.” One month later ol’ iron sides was delivered to my home. I will never forget my husbands reaction. Bless his heart for being able to look the other way and tell me it was a good purchase. Here she is in all her glory. No name at this time, but it will come. Happy Revovations!
